Contractor registration with L&I
Washington's Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) requires contractors to register before they advertise, bid or work, no matter how small the job. Registration requires a surety bond and liability insurance, and you register as either a general or a specialty contractor. On jobs over $1,000 you also have to give the customer a disclosure statement.
Trade work
Electrical work needs an electrical contractor license from L&I, and plumbing needs a plumbing contractor registration with a certified plumber. Basic contractor registration doesn't cover either.
